Pretty Cure Splash Star 18

Yeah, I know, slowest fansub ever.

This episode is a bit of an experiment. Like a lot of current fansubs, it's an x264 mkv file instead of the usual XviD, which means you get a much smaller file size for equivalent quality plus other little perks like soft subs and chapters. It's slightly quicker and easier for me this way as well.

Feedback on this would be much appreciated. Is compatibility a problem (i.e. are there a lot of people out there who still can't play these types of files, justifying a separate XviD release)? Is there any noticeable reduction in video quality based on how I've encoded this episode? Does everything work and display okay?

If I do release XviD versions in future I'm likely to reduce the file size anyway, since 230MB seems needlessly unwieldy when the raws aren't especially great to begin with...

woah thanks !
two days ago I was visting your site to check if you dropped it.. but now

yai - you made my day !!

thanks !!!

btw. I'm fine with either format - but as everything is in mkv lately, why not ;)
I like feature to skip chapters (so I just need one click to skip the opening)

Can you find a way to put this episode in XVID and avi with a reduced size. I still use that and find it more reliable. If not I can understand.

Whee thank you very much for this episode ^^ I'm really happy x3

I personally prefer avi files, but that's just my liking. I can play both well, so both is fine with me
There are some times when I can't read the subtitles in mkv-files but yours were okay ^^

The quality is okay too :)

Even though I prefer avi (like I said) if releasing avi would be too much of trouble I'm completely fine with mkv too :]

I'm for staying with the Xvid/AVI file format because they stay seeded longer than MKV's and because it keeps the release format consistent.

230MB or less per file is okay for me because it still allows 3 episodes to fit on a CD when I backup my files.

First, thanks for the release!

Second, for myself, MKV is the preferred format -- not so much for the size, but for the softsubs. The ability to change the size of the to suit is a big deal.

I think h264/mkv are beter b/c you have more control over the episodes you sub in distro. I am an anime fan and also suport both the fansubers and the anime industry. When an anime is licensed it is best to show support and buy the dvd's or downloads if available.

I prefer mkv for the softsubs. Besides enjoying the anime, I'm trying to learn Japanese anyway, and sometimes it's fun to watch it without the subs just to see how much you understand. With softsubs, it's like have the raw and subtitled one in the same file without wasting a lot of disk space.

Having had prior bad experience with trying to convert .mkv's to .avi's,I'll stick with the raws(for 18 onward)for the time being despite the file sizes being even larger than the first 17 fansubbed episodes...
